The Babylon

Description

Babylon is a massive spacecraft at 12 miles long, and 8 miles wide at its thickest point. Every foot of the craft has a purpose, even if the people who call it home do not understand. Babylon gives the sensation of being alive, yet somehow the craft is extremely welcoming. It may be due to this fact that the craft has become the central hub for all intelligent life forms in the galaxy. Babylon is home to everyone, though it is claimed and ruled by the Council, a group leadership operation which attempts to maintain peace and control of the galaxy.

The craft is thickest in in the middle, where it appears fat before tapering off high quite dramatically. The front half is relatively the same size, though it does taper as well, if not as severely as the rear. There are various, sharp-jointed, appendages stretching from its belly at either side which seem to be used for telescopes, satellites, and perhaps power generation.

At the front, are a series of curved, hornlike arms. Two stretch from either side, curving up and out, then in and down, before rising at a sharp point. A central horn sticks out closer to the center and front, curving up before cutting downward sharply. A fourth horn is similar to that of the third, though comes from the bottom, curving upward and stretching out significantly further. Each horn has extra protrusions, varying in size, angle, and sharpness. These “horns” serve as docking bays which funnel into a central area, that has a complete view of all the bays.

The ship certainly looks like it was alive at one point, but it is nothing more than a shell of what once was. It is believed Babylon is as ancient as time itself. Any attempt at dating it has come up inconclusive. Results vary dramatically depending on method. As such the mystery of the craft remains.

As the Council was forming in its earliest years, the discovery was made and taken as a sign. The Council and its respective species pride themselves on Babylon, putting themselves at the forefront of its success. There is life yet to be found and this husk has been turned into homes for millions of people. Everyone is accommodated for, no matter their requirements for the utmost comfort.

Each species has its own sectors for living, working, shopping, and other luxuries, though they are all of course welcome to mingle amongst everyone.

The Fleebeeron’s section is possibly the most beautiful of them all. Littered with plant life from around the galaxy. Their section is like a forest with meadows, ponds, and indiscrete apartments. They produce most of the natural, exotic foods for Babylon.

The Verbenass’ sector is a gigantic sea. As they are an aquatic, nautilus-like species, they have a well decorated oceanic life. They seem to collect non-dangerous sea creatures from around the galaxy.

The Eldiravan live similar lives to that on their dying home planet. Their ideals of a stratocracy are shown clearly in their sector. As such, so have their more xenophobic ways. They do not permit outsiders into their sector and have accordingly placed full time guards at all entrances to avoid such contact in their homes. Their battle trumpets can be heard all around as they march, and fight with one another.

The Ardrizi have the darkest sector. Their ultraviolet vision makes them sensitive to bright lights, so outside of their sector they are usually seen in dark tinted goggles. Their area emits light, that they see much differently than others, which make it out to be a crazy rave at all times. They are quite tribal in culture, living in family units, bartering and trading services instead of currency.

The Kotoli section is possibly the most unique. Theirs is completely sectioned off by all others, making it difficult to get into. They are quite welcoming, but they live “underground.” They live in the center most portion of Babylon, calling the tiny crevices, and other inaccessible areas home. This is also the warmest place on the ship. They seem to have access to every location by underground routes, but anyone not a kotoli, or at least as small as one, will have a difficult time taking the paths. The Kotoli are natural engineers and pride themselves on their machines and inventions. They keep Babylon running at top condition.

The Glurone sector is as luxurious as the Eldiravan. As businessmen, they only want the best. Their large, elephant-like appearance is surprisingly docile. They welcome everyone, especially those coming for business. They are also guarded by the eldiravan (the police force on the craft), who assure those coming and going mean them no harm.

The Bichani are the strangest and most delusional species. With a belief that everything in the universe is trying to kill them, they are on a great quest to be closer to God. Extremely religious, their sector is decorated to show it. They work closely with the kotoli, attempting to turn their entire species into machines to avoid the inevitable. Despite this, they will welcome most people, especially those seeking God. All religions are studied here and even practiced.

The humans are the newest species to arrive on Babylon. As such, their sector may still be a little lacking, but it is being worked on in a hurry. Humans have yet to be accepted into the inner circle of the Council and thus have no political hold, but they are working towards it. Humans live lush lives with plenty of gardens, ponds, parks, and “spacerooms” (think of them as sunrooms, only instead of for letting light in, allowing people to see into the endless, colorful void of space.). They are open and welcoming to absolutely everyone.

The Eldiravan run the police force of Babylon, so officers are primarily eldiravan, though plenty come from other species, even humans.

The Fleebeerons handle politics and are usually the final judge.

The Verbenass work as the intelligence branch, keeping everyone connected and happy.

The Kotoli are the engineers, they keep the place running and are usually the main crafters.

While each species may have its own sector, it is more for their comfort than anything else. There are plenty of central hubs located throughout Babylon to please any collection of suitors. Night clubs, restaurants, cafes, theatres, arcades, group activities, shooting ranges, etc. Babylon is primarily peaceful and safe. There is an officer to protect and serve at every corner, usually donned in pure white armor and badges. The landscape is beautiful, littered with fauna from around the galaxy, gardens, and outdoor seating.
