The Black Wolves

Description

The Black Wolves accept any alpha hunter denouncing Apex and the Order. Those that want to be human flock to the safety of the Black Wolves where they go through the Trial of Blood, earn a name, and are put to work to help in the fight for rights.

They have established themselves within an abandoned mining facility in a chain of mountains. There is only one way vehicles can reach the mine, and that is by way of a treacherous, twisting, and winding path that is barely wide enough to keep the tires of a truck from peeling over. An underground railroad was built through quiet activists providing safe passage to the Black Wolves for any AWOL alpha.

Old alphas stand together to lead the Black Wolves, though complete leadership comes from both Spectre and Javelin who give affirmative to plans and their activities. Currently, their attempts involve winning over the people. They hide themselves in plain sight to befriend and protect the civilians of the Order, and to prove that they could live normal lives, even though for an Alpha this is a new level of difficult.

With lifetimes of abuse and neglect, alpha hunters are usually locked up, poked until rabid with anger, then set loose on the enemy where they have no fear of death, or pain. Territorial, aggressive, and a short fuse, alpha hunters fight each other as much as they fight the enemy, if not more. They are a pack of rabid wolves vying to be the one on top.

History

The Black Wolves is a young group that got its start at the tail end of the First Contact War. Spectre, who was declared defective due to disobeying a direct order that would have killed more innocent people than enemy soldiers, fought against the praetorians that came to arrest her. Other Alphas who had gathered in the region joined her fight along with the very soldiers she was protecting from untimely, pointless deaths. The alpha hunters killed the praetorians and fled into the mountains of Nirna.

Here, they established their group of AWOL alpha hunters. They would gather as many alpha hunters as they could to join their just cause to be treated like human beings and not tools of war. Having the inside knowledge, they created a process to eliminate any technological control Apex had over them in a painful process deemed the Trial of Blood. They would inject themselves, one at a time, with destructive nanites programmed to eliminate their chains and free themselves of control and spying. The process was a painful one, leaving them begging to die at worst. During this, alpha hunters would earn themselves a name, erasing their number once and for all.

They gathered as many alphas as they could before leaving Nirna on stolen Apex ships. They hid among various hunter dens and sanctums, wanted both by Apex and the Order to face execution for their betrayal.

Culture

The Black Wolves continue living the only way they know how. They are elite soldiers at the core. They continue to uphold their values and rules and even continuing working for their personal clientele.

Black Wolves live harsh lives in the field. They do not have the average luxuries of civilians, or even the mediocre luxuries of their owned counter parts. Their housing consists of whatever they can scrounge up in their given area. If all they have to work with is tents, then be it snow, desert, or jungle, they will sleep in tents. They are a resourceful people and will repurpose everything they have and find. They will create shelter out of dead ships and other equipment. Mostly, Black Wolves will take over structures rather than build their own.

For instance, the main force of the Black Wolves resides in an old, abandoned mine system within a chain of mountains. It can only be accessed by vehicle through a treacherous route that serves a high chance of killing those that dare attempt to take it. On foot, it can be accessed by extreme hiking up the side of the mountain. The system itself is expansive and takes up three levels. Old rooms were repurposed to serve as stock rooms, kitchens, barracks, gathering areas, bars, mess halls, showers, garages, and in the lowest levels a ceremony room where new alphas are turned into black wolves.

While not religious in and of itself, Black Wolves maintain the typical humanist belief. It seems, however; they have started leaning towards religion, perhaps out of spite of their old masters, or for the sense of security and purpose it can bring. Their collective choice to practice is nordic paganism. The Black Wolves find a deep-seated connection with the culture of Northmen with barbaric practices and enjoyed war as much as peace. Their own practices are loose and appear to be more for show than true belief. Some alphas wish to be blessed by gods such as Thor and Hela before leaving on a mission. Others will pray for guidance and steady hands.

The Black Wolves are always on alert and ready to go at a moment's notice. They are always busy, working towards bettering their community or in the war effort against the Order of the Hunters. In their rare time to relax, wolves can be found drinking excessively, gorging themselves on fresh food, and even taking drugs of various kinds. They take any chance to live a little and take their minds off the gruesome work they often do.

Problems among the wolves themselves are solved either verbally, or physically. Fights are an everyday thing and can break out over issues as simple as someone taking another's seat, to something as complex as stealing credit. Fights often end with bruises and lacerations.  Even the leaders of the Black Wolves duke it out, especially when they cannot come to an agreement.

The Teams

Despite their brotherhood, the Black Wolves are separated into smaller groups that reside under chosen leaders. These leaders are the trench coat wearing alpha hunters or otherwise dubbed old alphas. They were the ones that started the Black Wolves and gave a second chance to other alpha hunters. They were also the oldest alpha hunters to have ever lived. They came from a time long before the first contact war.

The Knights

Alphas that find themselves longing for peace and justice will usually be part of the Knights. The Knights are led by Javelin, co-leader of the Black Wolves. Knights are possibly the kindest of the alpha hunters and will do whatever it takes to avoid using violence to solve their problems. When a Knight draws his weapon, it is as a last resort. Knights can be pointed out from the crowd due to their masks/helmets featuring older designs like that of the medieval era. They are one of the largest groups of the Black Wolves and act as the brunt force while in the field. Most of their time is spent far from home.

The Demons

Alphas seeking cold hearted revenge and the freedom to enjoy their sick, sadistic pleasures will find themselves among the Demons. These particularly deadly alphas are led by Spectre (and later jointly by Phantom), the leader of the Black Wolves. Demons have embraced the monsters within and live hand in hand with them. They understand that they are only weapons, tools of violence to be used for war. These are straight forward alphas, complex thinkers, and immediate doers. They are the ones willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, often throwing themselves headfirst into suicidal tactics. They are one of the largest groups and handle some of the most crucial missions. Demons can be found in various forms of masks that usually resemble the alpha hunter emblem. They are often combined with depictions of the alpha's muzzle and have different sizes of horns.

The Blitzkriegers

Alphas with an inclination towards technology, such as hacking, programming, and further engineering machines, head to the garages to join the Blitzkriegers. These highly intelligent alpha hunters are led by Stalker, the master engineer of the Black Wolves. These guys are backliners, setting up ambushes and traps, hacking into systems, and building the tools and machines the Black Wolves require, and even maintaining weaponry and vehicles. These guys prefer working in the shadows and staying out of fights, but these aren't daisy pickers either. They use cruel, long distance and hands-free tactics for immobilizing and killing their targets. Blitzkriegers wear gas masks of varying styles from half-face to full-face. They are stylized for each alpha.

The Stormbringers

Those who enjoy tackling their issues before they know it will find themselves working with the Stormbringers. Tempest leads this group into the heart of enemy territory where their saboteur skills shine the brightest. The Stormbringers provide reconnaissance for the Black Wolves and work in tandem with the Blitzkrigers to set up ambushes and to take down targets far from sight.  The masks / helmets of the Stormbringers features skulls, horns, animals, and glowing parts, or lightning effects.

The Vikings

Feral leads the Vikings alongside his life-time partner, Tremor, a medium-sized group among the Black Wolves. These alphas live a luscious lifestyle enjoying the finest pleasures in life, booze, drugs, and whores. They are the lives of the party, usually the first to start and the last to tap out. While they do not need it, Vikings will often take a zerker class drug of their choosing to induce an unstoppable rage. They are vicious and never satisfied. Their party lives leave them restless and full of energy, which they take out on their victims as they see fit. Their masks / helmets extend to their entire wardrobe. Vikings leave most of their bodies exposed and painted with tribalistic images. They will wear furs and skulls and decorate their bodies with piercings, tattoos, and trophies from their battles.

The Guardians

Alphas who believe there is still honor to be upheld are led by Warbear within the Guardians. These alphas are still full of heart and love and will use themselves as shields to protect innocent lives. They are noble and chivalrous. They are quick to fight, but fights with Guardians never lasts long. They often land killing blows immediately to avoid their target suffering any further. Guardians find themselves leaning more towards the chosen belief of paganism. They decorate their bodies with tattoos and paintings of futhark runes to imbue strength and bravery. Their masks / helmets depict animal heads and furs.

The Spiders

The Spiders are possibly the most unique of the Black Wolves. They cling to the romance of the darkness of the world. Death is honored among them, be it enemy or friend. They are the most religious of the groups and follow nordic paganism closely. They hold group prayer frequently and always pray together where their Seeress blesses each and every one of them with smoking sage and blood face paint before they start a mission. Spiders prefer simple masks and helmets that are painted with creepy religious imagery.

The Rogues

If the Demons could be considered the heart of the Black Wolves, then the Rogues are the blood vessels that keep the Wolves alive. Mozam reluctantly leads the Rogues. These alphas are resourceful and are satisfied with living in absolute filth and other unsightly areas. They are drug addicts with a crucial mission at stake. They work with the black market across the galaxy to purchase and transfer goods from outpost to outpost. They are also the only Wolves to contact stray alpha hunters directly and guiding them down the path to the circle of leaders. These are hard working alphas that never catch a break. They run before they fight, waiting until they have no other choice. Rogues may or may not wear masks and usually blend in to the crowd.

The Faceless Ones

The Faceless Ones are the smallest group of the Black Wolves. They have no team leader and only consider Spectre and the other old alphas as their leaders. They are a strange bunch of currently only five members. They do not speak, nor do they reveal their bare bodies to anyone outside of their group. They wear all black from head to toe and chrome plated helmets as smooth as silk. There are no eye holes or other openings. They are at the beck and call of the old alphas and handle extremely difficult missions. No one knows where they came from or who they specifically are aside from the old alphas and neither party speaks of the history of the Faceless Ones. It is possible these were once captured and tortured alpha hunters seeking revenge.
